Overview

The MSU-ET for Law (Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda Entrance Test) is an entrance examination conducted by the Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) of Baroda, Gujarat, for admission to various law programs offered by the university. The Faculty of Law at MSU is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the state of Gujarat, offering a range of undergraduate and postgraduate law programs. It has been a significant contributor to the development of the legal education landscape in the region.

Exam Details

The CLAT is a 2 hour paper-pen test with 120 multiple choice questions with 1/4 negative marking. The test is conducted in various cities across India on the first Sunday of December.

Exam Pattern/Paper Format

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a paper-pen-based entrance examination for aspiring law students in India. It assesses candidates across five key sections: English (20%), General Knowledge and Current Affairs (25%), Legal Aptitude (25%), Logical Reasoning (20%), and Mathematics (10%). The English section tests language proficiency, while General Knowledge and Current Affairs focus on recent national and international events. Legal Aptitude evaluates a candidate’s understanding of law and reasoning, whereas Logical Reasoning measures critical thinking abilities. Finally, the Mathematics section emphasizes basic numerical skills, ensuring well-rounded preparation for legal studies.

Process Information

The application form is released in August. Students need to complete the application process by mid-October. The test is conducted in December. The admission process is carried out in multiple rounds from end of December through May-June.

Test Syllabus

English including comprehension:


The English section will test the candidates’ proficiency in English based on comprehension passages and grammar. In the comprehension section, candidates will be questioned on their understanding of the passage and its central theme, meanings of words used therein, etc. The grammar section requires correction of incorrect grammatical sentences (including subject-verb agreement, tenses, parts of speech), filling of blanks in sentences with appropriate words, etc.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs:

The General knowledge will be tested on the general awareness including static general knowledge. Questions on current affairs will test candidates on their knowledge of socio-political-economic national and international current affairs.

Mental Aptitude and Logical Reasoning:

The purpose of the logical reasoning section is to test the candidate’s ability to identify patterns, and logical links and rectify illogical arguments. It may include a variety of logical reasoning questions such as syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc. However, visual reasoning will not be tested.
